U.S. senators have introduced a bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that could impose tariffs of up to 100% on major buyers of Russian oil, including India, China, Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan. Senator Richard Blumenthal said the legislation would also apply blocking sanctions across Russia’s energy, finance and defence sectors, while targeting oligarchs, business figures and President Vladimir Putin. The revised proposal lowers the earlier tariff threat from 500% to 100% and gives the US president waiver authority. Lawmakers are urging swift passage in honour of late Senator Lindsey Graham, who helped shape and champion the sanctions package before his sudden death.
