India Launches SHANTI Campaign For 2028-29 UNSC Seat As EAM Jaishankar Makes Global Reform Pitch

India has launched its campaign for a non-permanent United Nations Security Council seat for 2028-29, unveiling the SHANTI vision at UN headquarters in New York. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the framework focuses on peace, trust, stronger global institutions, counter-terrorism, maritime security, modern peacekeeping and human-centric artificial intelligence. India has previously served eight terms on the 15-member Council, most recently during 2021-22. A ninth term would give New Delhi a direct role in major global security decisions while strengthening its long-running demand for permanent membership and wider representation for Asia, Africa and the Global South within the reformed Council.
