Your everyday masala could be hiding a dangerous secret. In one of Hyderabad's biggest anti-adulteration drives, the Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team and Food Safety officials raided 13 spice processing units, seizing nearly 25 tonnes of allegedly adulterated spices. Three people have been arrested and three criminal cases registered. Investigators allege the spices contained industrial and fabric dyes along with talcum powder to enhance colour and weight. Officials warn that consuming adulterated food may pose serious health risks. The crackdown is part of a larger drive that has led to hundreds of raids and massive food seizures across Hyderabad.
