Meta has apologised to the Indian government after a video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefly removed from Facebook. The issue was raised during high-level meetings between the IT Ministry and Meta's global leadership, with Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan expressing regret over the platform error. The government also said Meta acknowledged lapses related to deepfakes, Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and platform operations. With India being Meta's largest market, the controversy underscores New Delhi's growing regulatory scrutiny of global technology platforms and its insistence on compliance with Indian laws.
