A ₹6.41 crore alleged "ghost employee" scam has surfaced in the Mumbai Police, with investigators claiming salaries were paid to fictitious personnel between 2019 and 2020. The alleged fraud came to light during the migration of employee data from the Sevarth salary portal to a new software system. According to the FIR, fake names, attendance records and service documents were allegedly created to facilitate salary payments. Five former officials have been booked, two have been suspended, and the Crime Branch has taken over the investigation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the alleged scam is being thoroughly investigated.
