Mumbai’s 120-Year-Old Kyani & Co Shut After FDA Finds Major Hygiene Violations

Mumbai’s iconic nearly 120-year-old Iranian café, Kyani & Co, has faced major action from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). During an inspection on September 27, officials reportedly found serious hygiene violations, including rodent droppings, live flies and dead cockroaches in food storage and preparation areas. Blood accumulation was reportedly found inside a refrigerator, while an open sewage manhole was also found near the food processing area. The FDA has suspended the café’s food licence and ordered it to stop food-related operations with immediate effect. The action was part of a wider inspection drive in Mumbai between September 23 and 27.
