At the Global Fintech Fest 2026, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari spoke about India’s shift towards intelligent highways and agentic tolling. Gadkari said India is moving towards a barrier-free tolling system using FASTag, AI and ANPR technology. He said Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling will eliminate toll barriers, reduce waiting time and bring down operational and maintenance costs. Gadkari expects the system to be rolled out across the country in the coming months. He also highlighted potential savings in fuel consumption, lower pollution and reduced leakages, while stressing the role of digital innovation and research in transforming India’s highway and tolling infrastructure.
