“Onion Prices Down 9% In 9 Days”: Nidhi Khare On Availability And ₹35/Kg Retail Sales

Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare addressed concerns over onion availability and prices in Delhi. She said there is no doubt about the availability of onions and highlighted the government’s retail intervention to ensure consumers get onions at ₹35 per kg. According to Khare, the intervention has reached around 46 locations. She said the government has used a hybrid transportation approach, including rail rakes and trucks, to move onions to consumers. Khare also pointed to mandi price trends, saying prices have declined by 9% over the last nine days. She said this decline is likely to help moderate high onion prices across India.
