₹3,383-Crore MLA Turns Beggar In Mumbai: Why BJP’s Parag Shah Took To Ghatkopar Streets

What happens when one of Maharashtra’s wealthiest MLAs gives up his security, cars and usual identity to beg on the streets? BJP’s Ghatkopar East MLA Parag Shah, who declared assets of over ₹3,383 crore in his 2024 election affidavit, spent several hours disguised as a beggar in Ghatkopar. Acting on the advice of Jain spiritual guru Namramuni, Shah said the exercise was meant to experience life from the perspective of the poor and reflect on how people respond without knowing his identity. He received food from locals, including street vendors, before returning to some of the same spots without his disguise.
