SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey says India’s expanding startup and innovation ecosystem is driving demand for patient risk capital, with Alternative Investment Funds emerging as a key source of funding. Cumulative AIF investments have reached around ₹7 lakh crore, recording a 43% ten-year CAGR. Investor participation is also rising, with 23.8 crore demat accounts and nearly 15 crore unique investors. Pandey highlights SEBI’s technology-led reforms, including SCORES 2.0, online dispute resolution, SEBI Check, verified trading app labels and PARVA for performance verification. He also points to Demat 2.0, tokenised corporate bonds and CBDC-based settlement as the next phase of market innovation. As participation broadens, investor awareness, governance and protection will become increasingly important.
