Tata Group’s AI Mission: Unveils Tata’s AI Data Centre & Chip Strategy, Partners OpenAI & AMD

At the AI Impact Summit 2026, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran unveiled an ambitious AI roadmap spanning chips to applications. The group is building India’s first large-scale AI-optimized data centre, starting with 100 MW in partnership with OpenAI and scaling up to 1 gigawatt. Tata also announced a collaboration with AMD to develop sustainable, high-density AI infrastructure combining global AI rack architecture with Tata’s engineering and power expertise. Beyond infrastructure, the group is developing an AI data insights platform built on diverse Indian datasets and foundational models. TCS and Tata Communications are jointly creating an AI operating system for industries, aimed at delivering agentic solutions globally. Chandrasekaran called this a defining AI decade, stressing capability with dignity, energy efficiency and trusted innovation.
