TN Assembly Passes Resolution Against Delimitation Exercise To Keep Lok Sabha Seats At 543

The Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a resolution opposing the Union Government’s proposed delimitation exercise. Moved by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, the resolution urges the Centre to permanently retain the total number of Lok Sabha seats at 543 and preserve state-wise seat allocations to protect southern states from being penalized for successful population control. It also demands immediate 33% reservation for women starting with the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. While DMK, Congress, and Left parties backed the move, the AIADMK, PMK, and BJP rejected the resolution, calling it a politically motivated exercise.
