U.S. Tariff Relief For Indian Pharma: Select Specialty Drugs Get Zero Tariff

Indian pharma companies are set to get tariff relief in the U.S. as Washington exempts certain specialty drugs and associated ingredients from ad-valorem tariffs. India is among 20 countries covered by the exemption. Eligible products include drugs for rare diseases and infertility, cell and gene therapies, antibody-drug conjugates, and animal pharmaceuticals. The exemption also covers associated ingredients for qualifying products. However, the relief is product-specific and does not amount to a blanket tariff exemption for Indian pharma. Generic pharmaceutical products remain outside the Section 232 pharmaceutical tariffs. The move comes as the U.S. prepares to impose a 100% tariff on certain patented pharmaceutical imports.
