More than 80 days into the West Asia conflict, tensions between the United States and Iran remain dangerously high despite repeated promises of peace from Donald Trump. Trump has now revealed that he postponed a planned strike on Iran following intervention by Gulf leaders, including the Qatari Emir and the Saudi Crown Prince, claiming “serious negotiations” are underway. Tehran, however, has called Washington’s demands excessive and is seeking sanctions relief, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, release of frozen funds, and a permanent end to the conflict. With both sides exchanging proposals through mediators, the fragile ceasefire now appears to be hanging by a thread.
