Traffic relief
Pune's IT commuters have a new Metro connection! Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 23-km Pink Line on November 3, linking Maan and Hinjewadi's IT hub with Shivajinagar and District Court Metro station. Built at a cost of over Rs 8,300 crore, the corridor aims to ease traffic congestion on one of Pune's busiest commuter routes. Passenger services are scheduled to begin on November 4, offering officegoers an alternative to long road journeys.

Women takeover
Pune Metro's new Pink Line has a feature that sets it apart from conventional Metro operations. The entire 23-km corridor will be operated by women train operators, according to the Prime Minister's Office. But that's not its only distinctive feature. Nearly 30% of the line's electricity requirements are planned to be met through solar power. The combination of women-led operations and renewable energy makes this Rs 8,300-crore project particularly noteworthy.

Expansion bonanza
Pune's Metro network is set for a much bigger transformation. Alongside inaugurating the Pink Line, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for four Phase-II corridors, with an estimated investment of Rs 13,500 crore. The expansion includes Vanaz to Chandani Chowk, Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi, Kharadi to Khadakwasla and Nal Stop to Manik Baug. Once completed, these routes are expected to connect major residential, commercial and IT hubs across the city.

Connectivity makeover
From Hinjewadi's technology parks to the busy residential areas of Wagholi, Pune's Metro expansion promises to reshape daily commuting. The upcoming Line 4 will stretch approximately 25.52 km between Kharadi and Khadakwasla, while Line 4A will cover 6.12 km between Nal Stop and Manik Baug. Interchange facilities at Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass are planned to connect the new corridors with existing Metro services and intercity buses. The wider expansion is expected to take around four-and-a-half years.
