Assembly elections 2026: Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu to vote in single phase; Bengal in two phases, results on May 4
In West Bengal, polling will be held in two phases, on April 23 and 29

The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday announced the dates for assembly polls in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Polling will be held in a single phase in Assam, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Assam and Kerala will vote on April 9, while Tamil Nadu will vote on 23 April.
Assam has 126 assembly seats, Kerala 140, and Tamil Nadu 234.
In West Bengal, with 294 assembly seats, polling will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29.
Results for all four states will be declared on May 4.
In 2021, polling in West Bengal took place in eight phases between March 27 and April 29. The Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, won a third consecutive term after a closely contested campaign with the BJP.
The terms of these legislative assemblies are ending on different dates in May and June.
During the press briefing, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that the total electors in these states are 17.4 crores, and the assembly constituencies are 824.
"The number of polling stations is roughly 2.19 lakhs, and the electoral machinery would consist of roughly 25 lakh personnel. The end of the term of the Assam assembly is on 20th May, Kerala is on 23rd May, Puducherry is on 15th June, Tamil Nadu is on 10th May, and West Bengal is on 7th May," he said.
