Honda Cars announces safety direction for India

Honda Cars India, a leading manufacturer of premium cars, unveiled its safety roadmap for India, where every new model, introduced in the market from new fiscal year 2016/17 will have dual airbags as standard equipment across all variants.

The company said that dual supplement restraint system (SRS) airbags will be loaded in the current models by April 2017. The SRS airbag system is designed in such a way that it supplements the seatbelt system and improves occupant protection in certain type of crashes.

Announcing the safety drive, Katsushi Inoue, President & CEO, Honda Cars India said, "Vehicle safety is a top priority for Honda. All our cars sold in India have ACE body structure, which ensures structural rigidity and integrity of the body shell of the car, in case of a collision. As a growing awareness for safety equipment in the minds of the consumers for the forthcoming financial year, every new Honda model, introduced in the market will come equipped with Dual airbags."

The company said that any customers of the new Amaze compact sedan launched in Delhi today can also opt for dual airbags from the base variant that can be booked from May onwards this year.

The new Amaze starting from the price of Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and going up to Rs 8.19 lakh would replace the earlier car, which sold over 2 lakh units in the past three years. The new Amaze continues to be powered by the 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine that delivers fuel economy of 25.8 kmpl, while the 1.2 litre i-VTEC engine delivers a maximum fuel economy of 17.8 kmpl for the 5 speed manual transmission.

Honda has upgraded the advanced CVT transmission engine for the Amaze that delivers an impressive mileage of 18.1 kmpl.

The new Amaze sports a bolder and wider stance from the front with newly designed bumper and dual chrome front grill. The company has also added a new classy rear combination lights and a new dash board in the cabin with more colours combos to enhance its visual appeal.

The safety package of Amaze has Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure that enhances protection while mitigating damage in the event of a collision. While its active and passive safety technologies including dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) which prevents wheel locking, electronic brake-force distribution which enhances braking performance.

The seat belts pretensioner comes with load limiters and impact mitigating headrests for enhanced passenger safety. Besides, the front body structure of the Amaze is equipped with 'pedestrian injury mitigation technology' designed to absorb impact energy in case of the car hitting the person.
