Renault India has slashed prices for its MPV, Lodgy, by Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom) to shore up its sales.
The French carmaker has been struggling to find customers for Lodgy as it managed to sell only 274 Lodgy in June, lagging far behind its competitor and segment leader, Innova Crysta's, which registered a handsome sale of 8,171 units in the same period. Toyota has launched the new Crysta in April at a high starting price of Rs 14 lakh, but it continues to rule the market on its strong performance and massive brand recall.
Lodgy now comes at a starting price of Rs 7.59 lakh against the earlier Rs 9.09 lakh (both ex-showroom Delhi).
Renault has tasted some success with its Duster SUV, and now with compact Kwid hatchback, but Lodgy continues to struggle in the segment even against its older peers like Chevrolet Tavera or Honda Mobolio. It also introduced a new special edition MPV Lodgy World Edition to keep the momentum up as one of the fastest growing automobile brand in India. Renault's sales grew 173 per cent to 32,606 units in the first quarter of the current fiscal.
Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and MD, Renault India Operations, said: "Since its launch, Lodgy has been steadily gaining momentum despite challenges faced in the MPV segment. With the new World Edition, we will further augment Lodgy's value proposition and appeal, with distinctive exterior and interior enhancements that reflect evolving customer trends." Lodgy continues to be powered by 1.5 litre dCi (Common Rail Direct Injection) engine and will be available in 110PS and 85PS options. The more powerful diesel variant will deliver 110PS of maximum power and peak torque of 245Nm@1750rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, delivering fuel efficiency of 19.98 kmpl. The alternate 5-speed manual transmission variant of the same 1.5 litre dCi engine produces 85PS of power and delivers fuel efficiency of 21.04 km to a litre of fuel.
