Non-food credit grows 5.7% in April 2021

Growth in outstanding non-food credit disbursed by scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) improved to 5.7 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) in April 2021 from 5.5 per cent at the end of March 2021.

Credit offtake by industry grew 0.4 per cent in April 2021, unchanged from the preceding month.

Growth in outstanding credit to the service sector moderated to 1.2 per cent from 1.4 per cent in March 2021.

Size of personal loans portfolio of SCBs increased 12.6 per cent Y-o-Y in April 2021. The portfolio had grown at the same pace in the preceding month too.

Agricultural loans, the smallest component of outstanding SCB loans, grew 11.3 per cent Y-o-Y in April 2021.
