GST Council Meets In October: Will Mobile Phones Get A GST Rate Cut This Time?

The 57th GST Council meeting, scheduled for October 7 in New Delhi, is expected to assess the impact of the one-year GST rate rationalisation implemented from September 22, 2025. With GST collections remaining strong, the Council may prioritise reviewing the impact of the new tax structure on revenues, consumption and state finances before considering any fresh broad-based rate cuts. However, some product-specific proposals could come up, including a possible review of the 18% GST rate on mobile phones amid weakening handset demand. The Council may also discuss input tax credit, registration, refunds, compliance and dispute resolution.
