43% Indians Being Forced To Pay Restaurant Service Charge, Only 9% Get It Waived : Survey

Tipping the waiter for the service they provide at the restaurant has long been an accepted culture in the service industry in India and consumers have been okay with it as it was optional. However, over the last five years, the practice of restaurants to forcefully add a service charge has left consumers miffed. A new survey by Local Circles reveals how big the problem is. Forty-three per cent of consumers in India are still being billed service charges forcefully, while only 9 per cent managed to get them removed when they asserted their rights, shares Sachin Taparia, Founder, Local Circles in conversation with Sakshi Batra of Business Today TV.
