It's a mega political war of words over the 26/11 attack in the election-bound state of Maharashtra. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, the leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra assembly, has sparked a big controversy with his recent claims regarding the 26/11 Mumbai attack. Wadettiwar alleged that the bullet that killed IPS officer Hemant Karkare was not fired by Ajmal Kasab or any of the other nine Pakistani terrorists involved in the attacks. Instead, he claimed that Hemant Karkare was shot by a weapon used by a police officer allegedly associated with the RSS. Wadettiwar also accused Ujjwal Nikam, the special public prosecutor in the case and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Mumbai North Central, of suppressing this information and labelled him a traitor. He accused the BJP of protecting traitors. Wadettiwar later issued a clarification, stating that all that he spoke was mentioned in a book. In an exclusive conversation with India Today, BJP candidate from Mumbai North Central, Ujjwal Nikam, slammed Congress over the remarks made by Vijay Wadettiwar.
