No end to the scare in the skies as more than 150 flights received fake bomb threats in just a week. Out of these, 41 flights were operating on international routes. The series of hoax bomb threats prompted the Centre to pull up social media giant X, criticizing its handling of the situation as many threats originated from its users. The Centre accused X of abetting crime, expressing sharp disapproval during a virtual meeting called by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The meeting involved officials from airlines and social media platforms, including X and Meta. Investigators identified 11 fake social media accounts responsible for sending false bomb alerts to airlines. IndiGo and Akasa Air were the worst affected, with 26 and 20 flights, respectively, receiving bomb threats through social media and email. Vistara faced 19 threats, Air India Express 11, and both Air India and SpiceJet reported six cases each, causing major disruption across the aviation sector.
