The Covid pandemic seems to have changed income distribution and wealth generation among Indians. According to Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran, the recovery after the pandemic has been more broad-based among various parts of the society. Speaking at an event organised by the Research and Developing System for Developing Countries (RIS), the CEA said, “Post COVID, the rate and direction of change show that income for lower two quintiles have done better than top quintiles.” He also noted that income between social groups had converged during this period, dismissing the view that certain social classes were doing better and that the middle-class were spearheading the consumption boost in India.
