During an address at the Asia Society Policy Institute, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a sharp retort over China's violation of agreements during the COVID-19 pandemic. He pointed out that despite explicit agreements between India and China, Beijing increased its troop deployment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in 2020. This move, which led to clashes, was seen as a direct violation of the bilateral agreements in place to maintain peace. Jaishankar emphasized that the India-China relationship holds crucial significance for the future of Asia, and such breaches of trust complicate an already difficult history between the two nations. His remarks underscored the importance of upholding international commitments, especially during global crises like the pandemic, where cooperation and stability are paramount.
