Suspense looms over the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde and BJP's Devendra Fadnavis emerging as the top contenders after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), also known as the Mahayuti alliance, secured a landslide victory in the 2024 state Assembly elections. The alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, clinched 235 of the 288 seats, with BJP winning 131, Shiv Sena securing 57, and NCP claiming 41 seats. Speaking at a press conference in Thane, caretaker CM and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde emphasized unity within the alliance and dismissed speculation of dissent. Shinde revealed that a meeting with BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled for November 28 to finalize the decision on the CM post. He affirmed, “We have no issues in forming the government. The BJP's decision, guided by PM Modi and HM Amit Shah, will be final, and Shiv Sena will fully support their candidate.” Meanwhile, in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, former Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis maintained suspense, stating, “The answer will be given soon. All senior leaders of the three Mahayuti parties are deciding this together.” The decision is eagerly awaited as the state looks forward to the formation of the new government.
