Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the new tax regime will leave higher disposable income in the hands of people. She added that Union Budget 2023 “astutely balances the requirement of development imperatives within the limits of fiscal prudence”. Stating that the economy is on a sustained path, Sitharaman said India is still the fastest-growing major economy in the world and will continue to be so in the years to follow. The Union Finance Minister discussed measures for the poor under the Union Budget. Opposition members heckled her and raised points as she spoke. “I am talking about measures for the poor and Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is laughing,” she said. “You should not be political about the poor when your glass house is like that.”
