Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, joined other global leaders at the 40th edition of ADIPEC 2024 in Abu Dhabi, a premier event on global energy transition. The panel, which included ministers from the UAE, Egypt, and Uganda, discussed the evolving role of energy in the economy. Puri highlighted the importance of continuity and adaptation in energy policy, especially in supporting the Global South, where unique challenges and rapid development are reshaping energy needs. Puri emphasized India's efforts in renewable energy, AI-driven refinery automation, and low-cost solar energy, which are driving the country's transition to a sustainable energy model. He pointed to India's advancements in blending biofuels, expanding battery swapping for EVs, and accelerating green hydrogen initiatives as critical measures for meeting the energy needs of its vast population. However, Puri also acknowledged that affordable traditional fuels will remain essential for at least the next two decades, especially to ensure energy availability, affordability, and sustainability for developing countries. This balanced approach, he argued, is essential to support the transition while addressing current energy demands.
