A Briitish era suspension bridge collapses. Over 135 people died. In the crackdown that followed, the police arrested 7 people. All of them were low-level employees of the Oreva Group which held the maintenance and operations contract for the Morbi bridge. 3 of them -- Alpesh Gohil, Dilip Gohil, And Mukesh Chauhan -- belong to a village in Garbada taluk of Gujarat's Dahod district. Their families say they did not take a Diwali break as their homes are 500 kilometers away from Morbi. The families say the accused workers instead chose to stay at the site and earn their daily wage of 100 rupees.
