South Korean authorities have announced a special inspection of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft following the devastating Jeju Air crash at Muan International Airport. On December 29, Jeju Air flight 7C2216, en route from Bangkok, tragically crashed during a belly-landing, skidding off the runway and erupting in flames. The disaster claimed the lives of 175 passengers and four of the six crew members on board, leaving only two crew members as survivors. In a press briefing, Yoo Kyeong-soo from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated that the inspection will focus on the maintenance systems of the B737-800 and determine necessary measures to ensure aviation safety. The aircraft’s black box has been sent to Gimpo Airport’s Test and Analysis Centre for detailed investigation. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will collaborate with South Korean officials to uncover the cause of the accident. The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about aviation safety and the operational integrity of the Boeing 737-800 model.
