Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing Ethiopia, highlighted the deep-rooted civilisational and people-to-people ties between India and Ethiopia, saying both nations share warmth not just in climate but also in spirit. He traced the relationship back nearly 2,000 years to ancient trade routes across the Indian Ocean, where merchants exchanged not just spices, coffee and gold, but ideas and cultures. PM Modi recalled India’s support during Ethiopia’s liberation in 1941 and the role of Indian teachers and Ethiopian students in strengthening bonds. Celebrating shared food traditions and cultural familiarity, he said India and Ethiopia continue to build a friendship rooted in history, education and mutual respect.
