On his first foreign tour since resuming office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the G7 summit in Italy. Despite India not being a G7 member, it has been specially invited. With a GDP of $3.94 trillion, India's economy surpasses those of Canada, France, Italy, and the UK, making it one of the fastest-growing economies globally. A highlight of the summit is Modi's meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who is hosting the event. Their rapport was evident during Meloni's visit to India, and her popularity has surged following a significant victory in the EU elections. Her namaste greeting to global leaders at the summit has gone viral. Modi's agenda includes key bilateral meetings with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and potentially US President Joe Biden. However, a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not planned, following the vandalism of a Mahatma Gandhi bust in Italy by Khalistani extremists. The G7 summit, chaired by Meloni, will address pressing global issues such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Israel-Gaza situation, and climate change.
