PM Modi Calls For Financial Integration, Infra Development, Bigger BRICS Role At Kazan Summit

At the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the growing importance of BRICS as a global economic powerhouse, representing over $30 trillion in economic activity and 40% of the world’s population. He thanked President Vladimir Putin for hosting the successful summit and warmly welcomed the newly associated BRICS members. Modi emphasized BRICS' achievements over the past two decades and expressed confidence in its role as a key player in addressing global challenges. PM Modi highlighted several significant agreements within BRICS, including reforms to the World Trade Organization (WTO), trade facilitation in agriculture, and the development of resilient supply chains, e-commerce, and special economic zones. He emphasized the need to prioritize the interests of small and medium-scale industries. PM Modi also announced the upcoming launch of the BRICS Startup Forum, a concept proposed by India during its 2021 chairmanship. He acknowledged India’s Railway Research Network initiative, which is enhancing logistics and supply chain connectivity between BRICS countries. Modi stressed the importance of financial integration, infrastructure growth, and expanding digital payment systems like UPI to foster deeper cooperation. He called for BRICS to play an even larger role in shaping global economic governance and sustainable development.
