In response to China’s increasing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a landmark diplomatic mission to Brunei and Singapore from September 3 to 5, 2024. This visit not only highlights India’s growing engagement with Southeast Asia but also underscores the strategic importance of the ‘Act East’ policy in the broader Indo-Pacific region. Prime Minister Modi's visit to Singapore will mark a significant milestone, occurring after six years and coinciding with the leadership of new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. This visit is seen as a crucial opportunity to advance the India-Singapore strategic partnership. Secretary East Jaideep Mazumdar highlights that the visit will set the stage for further strengthening bilateral ties, building on a dynamic relationship that includes robust trade, investment, defense cooperation, and cultural exchanges.
