Companies should focus on going beyond just meeting compliance requirements in order to attract investors, Securities and Exchange Board of India Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said at an event in Mumbai. Using the analogy of the Indian women cricket team winning the ICC World Cup, Pandey cited rules and regulations acting as a shield and a sword for the “healthy nurturing and development of the game”. He said investors now demand more from companies in terms of transparency and look for signs of integrity. “Disclosures must be dialogues, investors respect candour, especially when things go wrong," he said. "A transparent narrative often restores confidence faster.” Pandey said that companies should track governance issues with the same seriousness with which managements track revenues and return ratios. This can be achieved by building a culture around this within companies, he said.
