The long-awaited announcement is here! Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has confirmed the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, bringing much-needed clarity and anticipation for millions of central government employees and pensioners. Pay commissions, typically established every decade, play a pivotal role in revising salaries and pensions, ensuring they align with current economic conditions and inflation trends. The previous Pay Commission was established in February 2014 and its recommendations kicked in from January 1, 2016. It is expected the next set of recommendations will be implemented from Jan 1, 2026. The benefits eventually percolate down to state employees with states also adopting the recommendations.
