Thirty-eight days after the Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay made his first public appearance — offering condolences and leading the party’s general council meeting. Vijay, who paid tribute to the victims, launched a strong attack on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the DMK government, accusing them of blaming TVK for the Karur tragedy. The actor-turned-politician declared that the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections will be a direct contest between TVK and DMK, marking a major escalation in state politics. TVK passed multiple resolutions on women’s safety, law & order, and environmental protection, while also naming Vijay as its Chief Ministerial candidate. The DMK hit back, blaming Vijay for the tragedy, while AIADMK leaders backed him, saying Vijay has “seen the DMK’s true face.”
