EU Leaders On Historic India Visit, First-Ever Joint Chief Guests At Republic Day, Foreign Secretary

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are on a state visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that both leaders were joint chief guests at the Republic Day celebrations, marking the first time European leaders have been guests of honour on the occasion. Misri said the visit highlights the growing importance of India–EU relations. The EU leaders are accompanied by High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security and European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas, along with senior officials from the European Commission and the European Council.
