Dense fog engulfed Delhi–NCR on Monday, severely disrupting flight and train operations and causing inconvenience to commuters. Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory warning passengers of possible delays and cancellations, with flights operating under CAT III conditions due to poor visibility. Rail services were also hit hard, with around 100 trains running late. Ahead of the New Year, air pollution has worsened, pushing Delhi’s Air Quality Index into the ‘severe’ category. As of 6 am, the overall AQI stood at 402, with hotspots like Anand Vihar, Chandni Chowk and ITO recording extremely poor air quality, even as the Delhi government made two GRAP Stage IV measures permanent.
