Business Today's Group Editor, Siddharth Zarabi in exclusive conversation with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said changes in US tariff policy are reshaping, but not reversing, global trade flows. While initial tariff proposals were higher, the final measures were moderated. More importantly, the global response has been swift expansion of regional and cross-regional trade agreements. Countries are deepening bilateral and plurilateral ties instead of waiting for uniform global rules. India, she noted, is advancing trade agreements with the UK, the EU, and the United States. In a multipolar world, trade relations may become more complex, but supply chains will continue to cross borders. “Trade is like water,” Georgieva said — when obstacles appear, it finds new paths, reinforcing global economic integration rather than ending it.
