India has firmly rejected China’s claim that it mediated between New Delhi and Islamabad during the India-Pakistan military standoff earlier this year, reiterating that the ceasefire decision involved no third party. The clarification comes after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi claimed Beijing helped defuse tensions during the May conflict, echoing a similar assertion earlier made by Donald Trump. India had already dismissed Trump’s claim. The Chinese statement has now triggered political reactions at home, with the Opposition targeting Narendra Modi and demanding clarity on whether any third-party mediation played a role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
