Moderna shares surged 177% after the company announced encouraging Phase 3 trial results for its personalised mRNA cancer vaccine developed with Merck. The vaccine, used alongside Keytruda, showed a significant reduction in melanoma recurrence and spread during trials involving more than 1,000 patients. Business Today’s Sonal Mehrotra explains how mRNA technology trains the immune system to identify and fight cancer cells. The results have raised hopes that the technology could eventually be explored for other cancers as well. However, the vaccine still requires peer review and regulatory approvals, including clearance from the US FDA.
