Alliances for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are crystallising as the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), founded by late actor Vijayakanth, switches sides to join the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led INDIA bloc, ending its long tie with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth sealed the deal with a Rajya Sabha berth. The move sparked backlash from the Bharatiya Janata Party, with Tamilisai Soundararajan warning of fan anger. Vijayakanth’s son Vijay Prabhakaran voiced unease. Meanwhile, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led by Vijay remains ally-less amid Congress talk, even as Indian National Congress MP Karti Chidambaram attacks the party. Battle lines are drawn.
