Rajat Gupta approaches US court to overturn conviction
India-born former Goldman Sachs director Rajat Gupta, a free man now after a 2-year jail term on insider trading charges, has approached a US court to overturn his conviction, arguing that there is no evidence to show that he "received even a penny" for passing confidential boardroom information to his friend. In an exhaustive brief filed in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals yesterday, 66-year-old Gupta's team of lawyers argued that the judgement of the Manhattan district court finding Gupta guilty of insider trading "should be reversed" and his "conviction should be vacated."

India's domestic air passenger traffic grew by 27% in March: IATA
India's domestic air passenger traffic grew more than six times of the US' domestic travel demand in March, according to International Air Transport Association (IATA). The IATA passenger traffic data, released today, for the month of March 2016 shows a growth of 27.4 per cent in India which is over six times more than the growth of the second highest market--the US at 4.1 per cent.

India, Iran agree to clear $6.4 bn in oil payments via European banks
The central banks of India and Iran have reached an arrangement to use European banks to process pending oil payments to Tehran, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, unlocking $6.4 billion in stalled funds. Buyers of Iranian oil were prevented from using global banking channels to clear their transactions after sanctions were imposed on Iran in 2011 over its nuclear programme.

These 3 railway stations get free Wi-Fi service
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday launched free Wi-Fi service at the railway stations at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Kacheguda in Telengana via videoconferencing in New Delhi. The service was commissioned by RailTel, a mini Ratna public sector undertaking, in association with Google for providing high-speed Internet to the commuters at these places.

1,375 BSE firms fined for not appointing women directors
A total of 1,375 BSE-listed companies have been fined for failing to appoint women directors on their respective boards while the number of such companies on NSE is 191. Out of these, two are public sector banks and 22 other public sector enterprises. All listed firms are required to have at least one woman director on board from April 1, 2015, as per markets regulator Sebi's directive as also under the Companies Act, 2013.
