Subramanian Swamy fires fresh salvo; asks PM to sack Rajan immediatelyBJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Thursday fired another salvo at RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan levelling six allegations against him and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately terminate his services. Accusing Rajan of raising interest rate to the detriment of small and medium industries, Swamy said the Governor should have known the "inevitable consequence of rising and high interest rate and his policy was wilful and thus anti-national in intent". Rajan, the BJP leader also claimed, has been sending confidential and sensitive financial information using unsecured Chicago University email id and publicly disparaging the BJP government.

India can lose $49 billion in GDP by food price shock: UNIndia could lose $49 billion in GDP if global food prices double in future, according to a new UN report which said the world will likely suffer from more volatile food prices due to rising populations. The UN Environment Programme-Global Footprint Network report, entitled 'ERISC Phase II: How food prices link environmental constraints to sovereign credit risk', features countries according to how badly they will be affected if global food commodity prices double. The report said if global food prices double then China could lose $161 billion in GDP and India could lose $49 billion.

Tata Steel yet to shortlist buyer for British operationsDespite losses increasing by the day and a second round of parleys with the UK government, Tata Steel board on Wednesday did not shortlist any of the seven bidders who have shown interest to take over the bleeding business, nor did it give a timeline by when it expects to shed the assets. There was a heightened expectation that the Tatas would announce a formal sale agreement of its imperilled British operations, especially after UK business secretary Sajid Javid flew down to the city yesterday for the second time in a month and held parleys with group chairman Cyrus Mistry.

Why word war between Flipkart, IIM-A escalatedThe word war between India's largest e-commerce firm Flipkart and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad does not seem to come to an end. IIM-A had written a strongly worded mail to start-up major asking it to either scale down the deferment period or ramp up the quantum of compensation. To which, Flipkart has reportedly responded in negative. In a blog post on its website, the e-commerce firm said its committed and absolutely confident of having all its trainees on board in December 2016. The company has offered Rs 1.5 lakh for a period of seven months to compensate for the delay in joining dates. However, IIM-A found it "utterly unacceptable".
