G20 Summit in Bali LIVE: 'Achieved self-reliance for essential resources during corona times', PM Modi tells Indian diaspora

Prime Minister Modi today highlighted the close cultural and civilisational linkages between India and Indonesia. He referred to the age-old tradition of "Bali Jatra” to highlight the enduring cultural and trade connection between the two countries. He also highlighted the commonalities between India and Indonesia in various sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We have seen in the Corona period, India achieved self-reliance for essential resources from medicines to vaccines and the whole world got its benefits. India's capability has acted as a protective shield for many countries.”  

Under Ayushman Bharat, today India is providing free treatment of up to ₹5 lakh annually to more Indians than the total population of the European Union and USA, says PM Modi.

- Talked about cooperation between India and the US in Quad and I2U2

- PM Modi expressed confidence that both countries would maintain coordination during India’s G20 Presidency

"Indians are making a mark world over. From Indian CEOS for global majors to being the world's fastest-growing large economy to being number 1 in global fintech - India is progressing rapidly," says Prime Minister Modi. 

Talking about India's response when Indonesia was affected by an earthquake, Prime Minister Modi said, "Relations between India and Indonesia stand strong during both good and difficult times. In 2018, when Indonesia was affected by an earthquake, we immediately started operation Samudra Maitri." 

He added that both countries are not 90 nautical miles away but 90 nautical miles close.

While addressing the Indian diaspora in Bali, the Prime Minister said, "As I speak to you in Bali & we sing songs of Indonesian traditions, 1500 km away from here in India's Cuttack, Bali Yatra Mahotsav is going on - Bali Jatra. This Mahotsav celebrates thousands of years old India-Indonesia trade relations."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives at the venue in Bali, Indonesia where an Indian community event will be held shortly.

The Prime Minister's Office has said that PM Modi had a fruitful discussion with World Bank President David Malpass at G20 summit.

World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for collaborating in building the global traditional health centre. He took to Twitter and wrote, "Thank you Prime Minister Modi for your collaboration with WHO on hosting and building the global traditional health center. Together for Health For All."

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said during the G20 Summit's second working session on health, "Developing countries must be empowered as part of the solution. Gaps in health capacity must not be allowed. Developing countries need empowering partnerships, they must be part of the global health supply chain."

He also sought increased investment in the health industry, cooperation on research & technology transfer, and wide access to material for developing countries. -- ANI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and PM of the Netherlands Mark Rutte interacted during the G 20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia

Bank Indonesia, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipnas, Monetary Authority of Singapore and Bank of Thailand have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cross-border payments at the ongoing G20 summit. 

"As this crucial G20 summit begins, France and India are already coordinating closely," tweets French Ambassador to India, Emmanuel Lenain.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted, "We should also not hesitate to admit that multilateral institutions like the UN have been ineffective on these issues. And all of us have also failed to make suitable reforms in them. So today the world has high expectations from the G20, and the relevance of our group has increased further."

PM Modi said, "Millets can also be a solution to global malnutrition and hunger. We all should celebrate the International Year of Millets with great enthusiasm next year."
