Diwali travel gets a boost? Sleeper Vande Bharat may connect Delhi to Varanasi overnight

The proposed Sleeper Vande Bharat could arrive around Diwali, giving passengers a new overnight option between Delhi and Varanasi. The planned route would also bring Prayagraj and Kanpur into the service, potentially changing how travellers plan long-distance festive journeys.

Overnight Run

The proposed schedule is designed around night travel: the train could leave Varanasi at 9:20 pm and reach New Delhi at 5 am. In the reverse direction, it would depart Delhi at 9:20 pm and reach Varanasi the next morning.

Speed Push

The train is expected to operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph, although the final speed will depend on trials, track conditions and operational clearances. The proposed service is linked to the Railways' Mission Raftaar push for faster train travel.

823 Berths

The proposed 16-coach train is expected to accommodate 823 passengers, with 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches and one First AC coach. That would give overnight travellers multiple sleeper-class options on the Delhi-Varanasi corridor.

Details Pending

The Diwali launch is still a proposal, not a confirmed timetable. The Railway Board is yet to announce the train number, fares and final launch date, while the eventual speed and schedule will depend on trials and required operational approvals.
