JSW Combat is coming! The new SUV betting big on hybrid power and rugged looks

JSW Motors is preparing to enter India’s passenger vehicle market with the Combat, a five-seat SUV based on the Chery Jetour T2. Its rugged styling and plug-in hybrid setup could put established SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner under fresh pressure.

Hybrid Punch

Under the bonnet, the Combat is expected to combine a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with two electric motors and an 18.4kWh battery. The global-spec T2 produces 360hp and 610Nm, giving this SUV some serious performance credentials.

Rugged Recipe

The Combat is expected to retain the T2’s boxy silhouette while adding India-specific touches to the grille, lighting and bumpers. Twenty-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and a rear-mounted spare wheel could give it the tough visual appeal SUV buyers increasingly want.

Range Game

The global-spec Jetour T2 claims up to 90km of electric driving range and a combined range of 1,200km under the NEDC cycle. If the India-spec Combat delivers comparable figures, it could make plug-in hybrid ownership far more interesting.

Price Battle

JSW is reportedly targeting a ₹30 lakh-50 lakh price band, placing the Combat directly in a fiercely competitive SUV space. With five seats, rugged styling and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, its pricing could determine whether this debut becomes a niche curiosity or a serious Fortuner alternative.
