Italian challenger

TVS and Bajaj have a new electric scooter rival. Italian-origin brand VLF has launched the Strada in India, with prices starting at Rs 1.20 lakh for the City variant and Rs 1.55 lakh for the Max. Although VLF has Italian roots, the scooter is manufactured in Zhejiang, China, and sold in India through Kolkata-based Motoh aus. Its biggest attraction is a claimed range that could catch the attention of long-distance commuters.

Range gamble

Could an electric scooter really travel 250 km on a single charge? VLF claims its Strada Max can deliver an IDC-certified range of up to 250 km, thanks to two batteries with a combined capacity of 4.32 kWh. The cheaper City variant gets a removable 2.16 kWh LFP battery and a claimed 130 km range. However, these are test-cycle figures, and actual range will depend on riding conditions.

Speed switch

VLF Strada offers three riding modes, and each changes how fast the scooter can travel. Eco mode limits the top speed to 45 kmph, City mode raises it to 65 kmph, while Sport mode unlocks a claimed 85 kmph. Power comes from a hub-mounted BLDC electric motor producing 4.8 kW and 34 Nm of torque. The different modes give riders a choice between conserving battery and enjoying quicker performance.

Charging catch

A removable battery sounds convenient, but how long will charging take? According to the supplied specifications, the Strada City needs approximately three hours to charge its battery from 20% to 100%. The Max variant, with its larger dual-battery setup, takes around six hours to charge both batteries. That difference could matter to buyers choosing between a lower-priced daily commuter and a longer-range scooter.

Feature overload

The VLF Strada packs several features beyond its claimed range. Buyers get a five-inch TFT display, all-LED lighting, projector headlights, an integrated windscreen and keyless ignition. The scooter also features a split-seat layout, 780 mm seat height, 175 mm ground clearance and a claimed weight of 98 kg. With a 31 mm telescopic front fork, adjustable twin rear shock absorbers and 16-inch front wheel, VLF is aiming for everyday practicality alongside distinctive styling.
