India’s Finance Minister explains the rationale behind taxing crypto assets

In some of her strongest words yet, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that crypto assets have been taxed not only to track their trades but also to ensure they were not being used for money laundering and terror financing. The Finance Minister was speaking at a IMF event in Washington DC.
